Plesk WordPress Installation fast CGi isssue

If anyone else is trying to self-host a wordpress site on plesk (mine is through namesarecheap) and is having issues with error message such as:

Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server

Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: ap_pass_brigade failed in handle_request_ipc function

Premature end of script headers: themes.php

You’re not alone. I will be updating this post as I try more fixes until I get one that works, as support initially told me to reinstall wordpress (which I had a dozen times trying to figure it out)

What seems to have worked – at same time as I went to my wordpress dashboard and clicked Updates – I finally convinced plesk support to check my php settings (my hosting did not allow me to edit myself) .. their fix

“We have switched PHP version to 5.3 (from 5.2.17)”

Here’s my history of attempts to fix, if the above turns out to still give errors, will update this post.

First fix – didn’t work for me

edit file       /httpdocs/ .htaccess     by adding (just before the # END WordPress):

addhandler x-httpd-php-cgi .php4
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php5

Second fix – didn’t work for me

edit .htaccess file, this time adding

AddHandler fastcgi-script .cgi
