Self-Hosted WordPress Admin Bar Not Showing

Sharing in case anyone has run across this issue..

My newest wordpress blog is self-hosted. My hosting in via namesarecheap.com on a PLESK system with a Parallels Panel for managing the sites. I used the application vault to install wordpress. However, the admin bar was not showing for the front end users / viewers. This is a feature I did want, I may change my mind later…

Here’s how I got the bar to show..

In file manager I went to wp-content / themes / (select you current theme) / functions.php and immediately after “<?php” added the following code & saved (you may want to back up current file first in case something goes wrong…)

/**
* My attempt to show front-end admin bar
*/
show_admin_bar( true );
add_filter(‘show_admin_bar’, ‘__return_true’);

It worked! The black admin bar is there. It currently hows the WP icon on left & on the right has the speech bubble for viewer’s notifications & the search icon. Now to figure out how to customize it..

Then I found this post to add a custom greeting to logged in WP users, instead of the “Howdy”

Will revise this post when as I continue to find ways to customize to my liking..
